- John has brought the Windows exclusive application ArcGIS to the Mac. Tech Specs: OS X: Yosemite 10.10.5 CPU: 15” MacBook Pro Retina 2.6GHz processor, 16 GB of RAM Parallels Desktop for Mac running Windows 10 with two processors with 8192 MB of memory allocated as seen below.
- As @Aaron and @Vince said in the comments, no ArcGIS does not run on Mac OS X without some variation of Parallels/BootCamp. For further details see the link that @Aaron shared about current system requirements for ArcGIS Desktop (10.7.x) or the link that @Vince shared about running ArcPro on a Mac via BootCamp.
- Download Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 ISO. Windows had been struggling to enable the same graphic settings into their systems but apple did it effortlessly. The Mac OS X Tiger was one of the record-breaking operating systems that made the cut of making the line up of Mac OS X popular among Mac users.
* See the Operating system requirements and limitations section for additional requirements and information.
Mac OS X obviously is the supporting operating system. There are different ways to download Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite on different computer brands. We’ve compiled the steps for a Mac as well for Windows. Downloading Apple Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite from Apple Store. The users can still find Mac OS X Yosemite Download here and its available for free.

Software requirements
- .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 must be installed prior to installing ArcGIS for Desktop.
- Internet Explorer requirement: Microsoft Internet Explorer (minimum IE 9) must be installed prior to installing ArcGIS for Desktop. Internet Explorer 9, 10 and 11 are supported.
- Python requirement for Geoprocessing:ArcGIS for Desktop geoprocessing tools require that Python 2.7.x and Numerical Python 1.7.x are installed. If the ArcGIS for Desktop setup does not find either Python 2.7.x or Numerical Python (NumPy) 1.7.xinstalled on the target computer, Python 2.7.8 and Numerical Python 1.7.1 will be installed during a complete installation of ArcGIS 10.3.x. You can choose a Custom installation to unselect the Python feature and avoid installing it. Additionally, if the Python setup is executed during the ArcGIS for Desktop installation, you will be provided with the opportunity to choose its installation location. The Python installation location should not include spaces.
Printer support
ArcGIS supports printing to any Microsoft certified Windows printer using the native driver in ArcGIS. Note that some printer drivers do not support complex maps, and the ArcPress printer driver or additional hardware may be needed for these complex maps.
Note:
Esri recommends the following configuration when printing large maps with the ArcPress printer drivers:
- If large complex maps do not print, reboot the computer to ensure the pagefile system is cleared. If the pagefile system is not a dedicated drive or partition, make sure the drive does not need to be defragmented.
- Disk Space: at least 10 GB of free space is required on the drive where %TEMP% is located, as potentially large temporary files will be written there while ArcPress is processing a map for printing.
For more information on supported printers, refer to the following Knowledge Base FAQ: What printers are supported by ArcGIS for Desktop?
Software required to connect to a DBMS
Your client machine (for example, the one running ArcMap) will need to have the appropriate client files installed for the RDBMS you are using. These client files are available from their respective RDBMS vendors, but some are also available on My Esri as a convenience. See Database clients for more information. RDBMS client files available from My Esri are IBM DB2, IBM Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL. Client files for ALTIBASE, IBM Netezza, Oracle, SAP HANA, and Teradata are not available on My Esri and must be obtained from the RDBMS vendors.
